Fight Inequality Alliance Global Gathering 2023-Call to Action

We have gathered in Kathmandu, Nepal from 3-5 July as activists from 15 countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa for the seventh Global Gathering of the Fight Inequality Alliance, hosted by Fight Inequality Alliance Nepal. This Gathering marked the first global face to face meeting of the Alliance since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, and is a significant step in our journey to mass organising to fight inequality. Despite the huge rises in inequality and suffering across our movements and beyond during the last 4 years, we celebrated our wins and our collective strength in the face of such huge adversity.

We shared and analysed the current trends in our societies and the world affecting us in 2023 from an inequality lens. Whilst the manifestations of inequality affecting us every day and the struggles we are engaged in remain many, we collectively prioritised to focus our collective activism and energy over the coming year on – the gap between the rich and poor, debt crisis, climate crisis, neoliberalism, regressive tax systems, shrinking civic space, and gender, race and caste based inequalities.

We learnt from members of FIA Nepal about the history and current inequality struggles faced by people of Nepal, as well as the role of social movements historically and currently as a force for change.
We undertook collective planning where we committed in the coming year to mobilising across all our countries and regions for three major global mobilisations where we campaign for change together as a global movement. These are:

1. Peoples’ Alternatives (particularly up to the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Marrakech in October 2023)
2. The Global Protest to Fight Inequality (in January 2024 as a counterpoint to the World Economic Forum in Davos)
3. The World Social Forum (in Kathmandu, Nepal in February 2024)

In addition, national and regional alliances will undertake nationally and regionally relevant campaigns and opportunities.

The participants made a real commitment to the 10 year roadmap for Fight Inequality Alliance, where the collective goal is to build a mass movement to fight inequality. In the current context, pushing for the deep transformation we need will only happen when we come together to build a much more powerful movement. Together we will build strong national movements to fight inequality in 60 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. We will contribute to changing systems and inequality fighting policies by mobilising 50 million people from the grassroots to redefine what happens in the corridors of power across the world.

We call on all like minded movements, groups, trade unions, artists and activists to join with us in this struggle. Only together can we win a world of equality, justice and dignity for all.

Llamamiento a la acción de la Alianza Contra la Desigualdad

Nos hemos reunido en Katmandú, Nepal, del 3 al 5 de julio activistas de 15 países de Asia, América Latina y África para el séptimo Encuentro Global de la Alianza Contra la Desigualdad, organizado por la Alianza Contra la Desigualdad  Nepal. Este Encuentro supuso la primera reunión mundial presencial de la Alianza desde el inicio de la pandemia de COVID-19, y es un paso importante en nuestro camino hacia la organización masiva para luchar contra la desigualdad. A pesar del enorme aumento de la desigualdad y el sufrimiento en nuestros movimientos durante los últimos 4 años, celebramos nuestras victorias y nuestra fuerza colectiva frente a esta enorme adversidad.

Compartimos y analizamos las tendencias actuales de nuestras sociedades y del mundo que nos afectarán en 2023 desde el enfoque de  desigualdad. Aunque las manifestaciones de la desigualdad que nos afectan a diario y las luchas en las que participamos siguen siendo muchas, priorizamos colectivamente centrar nuestro activismo y energía colectiva durante el próximo año en: la brecha entre ricos y pobres, la crisis de la deuda, la crisis climática, el neoliberalismo, los sistemas fiscales regresivos, la reducción del espacio cívico y las desigualdades de género, raza y casta.

Aprendimos de los miembros de FIA Nepal sobre la historia y las actuales luchas contra la desigualdad a las que se enfrenta la población de dicho país, así como el papel de los movimientos sociales históricamente en la actualidad y como fuerza de cambio.

Llevamos a cabo una planificación colectiva en la que nos comprometimos a movilizarnos el año que viene en todos nuestros países y regiones para tres grandes movilizaciones mundiales en las que haremos campaña como un movimiento global colectivo. En donde retomamos::

1. Alternativas de los Pueblos (especialmente hasta las Reuniones Anuales del Banco Mundial y el FMI en Marrakech en octubre de 2023)
2. La Protesta Mundial para Combatir la Desigualdad (en enero de 2024 como contrapunto al Foro Económico Mundial de Davos)
3. El Foro Social Mundial (en Katmandú, Nepal, en febrero de 2024)

Además, las alianzas nacionales y regionales emprenderán campañas y oportunidades relevantes a escala nacional y regional.

Los participantes se comprometieron realmente con la hoja de ruta a 10 años de la Alianza Contra la Desigualdad, cuyo objetivo colectivo es construir un movimiento de masas para luchar contra las desigualdades. En el contexto actual, solo podremos impulsar la profunda transformación que necesitamos si nos unimos para construir un movimiento mucho más poderoso. Juntos construiremos movimientos nacionales fuertes para luchar contra la desigualdad en 60 países de Asia, África, Europa y América Latina y el Caribe. Contribuiremos a cambiar los sistemas y las políticas de lucha contra la desigualdad movilizando a 50 millones de personas desde las bases para redefinir lo que ocurre en los pasillos del poder en todo el mundo.

Hacemos un llamado a todos los movimientos, grupos, sindicatos, artistas y activistas con ideas afines para que se unan a nosotros en esta lucha. Sólo en colectivo podremos conseguir un mundo de igualdad, justicia y dignidad para todos.
 

असमानता विरुद्ध अभियानको विश्व भेलाको आह्वान

एसिया, ल्याटिन अमेरिका र अफ्रिकाका १५ देशबाट सहभागिता रहेको असमानता विरुद्ध अभियानको विश्व भेला जुलाई ३-५ सम्म काठमाडौं, नेपालमा आयोजना भयो ।  असमानता विरुद्ध अभियान, नेपालले  यो भेला आयोजना गरेको हो । कोभिड-19 महामारी पश्चात  आयोजित पहिलो विश्वव्यापी आमने-सामने भेला, असमानता विरुद्ध लड्न सामूहिक संगठित गर्ने हाम्रो यात्रामा एउटा महत्त्वपूर्ण कदम हो। विगत ४ वर्षको अवधिमा असमानता र पीडामा ठूलो बृद्धि भए पनि, हामीले ठूलो प्रतिकूलताको सामना गर्दै हासिल गरेका हाम्रा जीत र हाम्रो सामूहिक शक्तिको उत्सव मनायौं।

हामीले असमानताको आँखाबाट २०२३ मा हामीलाई असर गर्ने हाम्रो समाज र विश्वका वर्तमान समस्याको विश्लेषण गर्यौं। हामीलाई दिनहुँ असर गर्ने असमानता र हामी लडिरहेका सङ्घर्षहरू धेरै रहे पनि, हामीले आगामी वर्ष हाम्रो सामूहिक सक्रियता र ऊर्जालाई धनी र गरिबबीचको खाडल, ऋण सङ्कट, जलवायु सङ्कट र नवउदारवाद, प्रतिगामी कर प्रणाली, नागरिक अधिकारको  संकुचन, र लैङ्गिक र जातीय असमानता विरुद्ध लड्न लगाउनेछ छौं ।

भेलामा हामीले अभियानको नेपाली सदस्यहरूबाट नेपालका जनताले इतिहास र वर्तमानमा सामना गरेका असमानता र सङ्घर्षका साथै परिवर्तनको शक्तिको रूपमा सामाजिक आन्दोलनहरूको भूमिका बारेमा सिकेका छौं।

हामीले आउँदो वर्षकालागि तीनवटा प्रमुख विश्वव्यापी परिचालनका सामूहिक योजनाको प्रतिबद्धता गरेका छौं। यी हुन्:

जनताको विकल्प (विशेष गरी अक्टोबर २०२३ मा माराकेचमा विश्व बैंक र आईएमएफको वार्षिक बैठकसम्म)
असमानता विरुद्ध लड्न विश्वव्यापी विरोध (जनवरी २०२४ मा डाभोसमा विश्व आर्थिक फोरमको विरोधमा)
विश्व सामाजिक फोरम (फेब्रुअरी २०२४ मा काठमाडौं, नेपाल)

साथै, राष्ट्रिय र क्षेत्रीय गठबन्धनहरूले राष्ट्रिय र क्षेत्रीय रूपमा सान्दर्भिक अभियान र अवसरहरू सञ्चालन गर्नेछन्।

हामी सहभागीहरूले असमानता विरुद्ध लड्न जनआन्दोलन निर्माण गर्ने सामूहिक लक्ष्य रहेको १० वर्षे रोडम्यापमा प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त गर्यौं। वर्तमान परिप्रेक्ष्यमा, रूपान्तरणको लागि काम तब मात्र हुनेछ जब हामी एकजुट भएर अझ शक्तिशाली आन्दोलनको निर्माण गर्छौं। हामी मिलेर एसिया, अफ्रिका, युरोप र ल्याटिन अमेरिका र क्यारिबियनका ६० देशहरूमा असमानताविरुद्ध लड्न बलियो राष्ट्रिय आन्दोलन निर्माण गर्नेछौं। हामी तल्लो तहमा ५ करोड जनतालाई असमानता विरुद्ध लड्न र नीतिहरू परिवर्तन गर्न योगदान गर्नेछौं।

हामी सबै समान विचारधाराका आन्दोलन, समूह, ट्रेड युनियन, कलाकार र कार्यकर्तालाई यो संघर्षमा साथ दिन आह्वान गर्दछौं। हामी सँगै भएर मात्रै सबैका लागि समानता, न्याय र गौरवको संसार बनाउन सक्छौं।
