We are embarking on an exciting new phase in the alliance’s history, where we aim to become the most powerful global movement tackling the power of the 1% yet. To achieve this we are embarking on our 10-year road map (2023 to 2033).  For the alliance, the next decade is a critical time for the system that replaces neoliberalism to be defined and fought for. Whilst we organise at a larger scale to change the inequalities pressing on the daily lives of people living on the frontlines of inequality, we will also build people powered alternatives  to the current system. Fight Inequality Alliance are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual who will lead the overall strategy  of our global organising and mobilisation work including building the infrastructure that can connect globally distributed and diverse local movements, organisations and grassroots groups. This is a senior  role to provide visionary and strategic leadership as part of an expanded Global Secretariat Team that is collectively responsible for the delivery of the Fight Inequality Alliance’s 10-year road  map. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic direction, driving impact, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. 

About the role  

As the Mobilisation Lead, you will work closely with the Head of the Secretariat, the General Secretary and lead a talented team across global, regional, and national secretariats. Your responsibilities will include leading the overall strategy and plans for organising and connecting frontline movements to mobilise millions to fight inequality in collaboration with global, regional, and national secretariats. This includes supporting regional and national secretariats to develop context specific mobilisation strategies, developing global mobilisation moments, building alliances, and overseeing capacity building initiatives. You will be instrumental in achieving FIA's mobilisation goals and strengthening our impact globally.

What you’ll do 

  1. Leading the overall strategy and designing plans together with global, regional and national secretariats and staff that creates the global infrastructure to connect local movements and  communities at frontlines of inequality and builds people power to challenge the extreme concentration of power and wealth and builds new powerful alliances across movements and borders. 
  2. Defining principles, concepts, outreach and methodologies for relational organising and mass mobilisation in FIA.
  3. Leading development of high visibility global moments that mobilise millions of people on the frontlines of inequality that ensures the alliance is influencing conversations among those in positions of power and contributes to the exponential growth of people power fighting inequality. 
  4. Working closely with the National and Regional Alliance Building teams to develop organising and mobilisation capability assessments for national and regional alliances and develop plans jointly to improve the capabilities over time.
  5. Ensuring clear and comprehensive communication across the alliance on people powered plans, especially around global moments.
  6. Working jointly with the media and communications team to develop coherent public narratives for mobilising supporters online and offline.
  7. Building strong working relationships with organising and mobilisation teams in members organisations and allies and developing joint initiatives and mechanisms for mass mobilisation.
  8. Developing regular training and peer learning sessions focused on key aspects of people power such as  relational organising and mass mobilisation around key moments including tools, methods, etc. for alliance members and staff.
  9. Leads MEL process for mobilisation strategy in coordination with regional and national officers and the Communications and Media Team.
  10. Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of mobilisation efforts.
  11. Using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  12. Oversees the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects within the alliance.

What we’re looking for: 

  1. Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) organising and mobilising people across multiple countries and/or cultural backgrounds including building an organisation or network’s capacity to organise and mobilise people. 
  2. At least 4 years experience leading and managing global organising or mobilising teams, preferably in an international or non-profit setting.
  3. Experience in political engagement rooted in organising or mass mobilisation, with ability to develop and implement political strategies to advance goals and navigate political dynamics
  4. Experience in alliance building and sustaining partnerships with organisations and individuals that share common goals
  5. Experience in community organising including building grassroots support and mobilising volunteers.
  6. Experience of successfully coordinating mass mobilisation, providing global support for national actions, organising key global events, producing global campaign materials, and organising global gatherings.
  7. Substantive multi-country experience in organisations working in alliance with social movements, NGOs and unions.
  8. Leadership experience in decentralised and multiple accountability structures.
  9. Comfort and ease working in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Able to work fluently in English, with Spanish an advantage
